Charred Remains Found near Mount Laguna
In Mount Laguna, near a remote hiking trail, a body has been found that appears to have been burnt at the site. Police don’t know yet if the body is a male or female and the remains were airlifted to the Medical Examiners office.
It’s always possible that a campfire got out of control, especially with the high winds and lower temperatures this weekend, but there’s always the possibility of foul play.
No word on how long the body has been out there or any other significant details.

I’d hate to be out hiking and be the one to come across something like this.
Be careful out there, people.

I was mountain biking out there through Noble Canyon at the time. I guess the police got wind of it at about 1115. We rode past two hikers with dogs at 1100, who probably caught on to the scent later. If this was actually a murder, which it seems like, then that is really creepy.
I thought it might have been near Noble Canyon. If it was murder, I would hope that the actual burning was at least posthumous, to cover evidence, rather than the means.
I’m pretty sure it was the means of the murder, not to cover the evidence. It’s pretty sickening, but hopefully we’ll be able to get more coverage after the autopsy. I’m going back down Noble Canyon this Saturday. We’ll see.
Yikes. I almost don’t want to know.
So I went mountain biking out there on Memorial Day. I spoke with a fellow biker who works with autopsies for SDPD. He told me he had been out that previous week to collect the body and give it to the autopsy unit. It appears that the victim was not burned alive, but burned to cover up their identity.
Cold comfort, indeed.
Thanks for the update! This still begs the questions: Who was killed and who did the killing? They still may be out there.
Be safe, people.
