Please help save a portion of El Cajon Mountain
Many of us have hiked El Cajon Mountain, or called El Cap by the locals. It's a challenging hike that seems like it's uphill both ways. Recently, the San Diego River Park Foundation were presented with an opportunity to acquire one of the three remaining parcels of privately-own land on the mountain. This one is a huge 20 acres and is just above the dark green area below the main shoulder of the mountain, as seen in the picture above from the trail.
El Cajon Mountain is a special place for me. On clear days, you can look east from much of the coastal area of San Diego County and see it, just below Cuyamaca Peak. On several of my hikes, I was able to see it towering in the distance, such as Eagle Peak, Viejas Mountain, and Sycuan Peak. You also get an excellent view of it while driving along the 8 toward Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and Laguna Mountain.
